Before you register

Regulations: Please review league regulations. The VULS relies on the cooperation of all captains and players to follow these guidelines for the benefit of all.

Consent: All participants must complete the online Statement of Consent before playing any game. This Consent includes a declaration that you are at least 19 years of age OR that you have submitted a Junior Waiver & Consent form (below) to the VUL office if you are under 19.

Age: Most of our leagues are for adults (19 or older), and all captains must be 19 years or older when they register a team. Our youth leagues are for players aged 13-18. We allow youth to participate in an adult league if they turn 17 before that league ends AND they submit a junior waiver & consent form to the VULS office before the league begins. Season end-dates are April 30 for Winter, August 31 for Summer and December 31 for Fall, so to play in Summer League you need to turn 17 on or before August 31.

Junior Consent forms can be scanned & emailed to the Executive Director, faxed to 604-909-1812, or mailed to Box 53502, 984 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC V5Z 1G7.

How to Register - Team Leagues

All registration for Summer, Fall and Winter Turf leagues is done online through the Event Registration wizard. You can register as a Team or an Individual.

Team registrations

When a captain registers their team, they will be asked for:
• first and second choice for day & time of play
• preferred division (skill level)
• contact and payment details (a credit card is required)
• acceptance of a Spirit Agreement and Statement of Consent.

Day & Time: Most teams will play on their first choice for day & time, but that is not guaranteed. Priority is given to returning teams and then to those who register earlier. A 'returning team' is one that participated in this league last year (i.e. each league is treated separately).

Rosters: All teams must have at least 12* players on their roster before their registration will be accepted (we recommend at least 14-16 players). Teams which have less than 12 players at the close of registration will lose their registration priority. New teams (i.e. those created this year) will have 3 extra days after registration closes. For instructions on rostering, see the FAQ in the right sidebar.

* For Winter Turf, teams must have a minimum of 10 players at the close of registration.

Division: Teams will be placed in divisions with similarly skilled teams (see divisional format for more info). Teams may not be placed in their 'preferred' division: if only 4 teams in a given timeslot ask to play in div-1, then some teams that requested to play in div-2 will obviously be placed in div-1. And so on through all divisions.

Mentors: Teams playing in their first season with the VULS may be assigned a mentor (regardless of the level of experience of their players). Mentors help introduce teams to the League and to Ultimate. New captains should also familiarize themselves with league regulations and rules.

Individual registrations

Individuals are encouraged to find a team on their own. Some suggestions:
• Participate in a Hat League. It's a great way to meet people and find a team for next season.
• Add your name to the Matchmaker list. Captains use this list to find players.
• Network with friends. Ask around to see if they know of a team that needs players.
• Post in the forum. Describe what you're looking for and what you have to offer.
• Attend pickup and/or clinics and network there.

If you cannot find a team, you can register as an Individual and we will attempt to place you on a team with other individuals. However, placement is not guaranteed. There may not be enough space on the night you request, or there may be an imbalance of men and women. Your money will be refunded if you cannot be placed on a team. Note we usually have a shortage of women, so guys are more likely to be placed on a team if they can find a woman to join them.

If you find a team to join after you have registered as an individual, let us know ASAP. It can mess up an individual team if you cancel after you are placed on that team. We can refund your individual fees if you let us know WITHIN 48 HOURS after registration closes. We cannot tranfer your individual fees to your new team.

How to Register - Hat Leagues

For Winter Hat, Summer Junior Hat and Fall Turf leagues, players register as individuals or in pairs, and the VUL creates teams (drawing names from a 'hat'). You can register online or in person. See the league pages for in-person registration times and locations.

When you register, you will be asked for:
• first and second choice for timeslot
• requested category (competitive or recreational)
• contact and payment details (credit card if online; cash or cheque if in-person)
• acceptance of a Spirit Agreement and Statement of Consent.

Timeslot & Category: Most players will play in their timeslot and category of choice, but that is not guaranteed. Priority is given to those who register first. Rules are the same for each category.

Playing Partners:
• If you signup in person, everyone in your group must fill out a registration form, but only one person needs to drop off the forms with payment.
• If you signup online, only one person needs to register and pay, but the others must complete the online consent form. The person who pays will receive a Registration Code via email, which others in the group MUST enter on the consent form before they will be placed on the same team. When completing the form, ensure the correct Event is selected on the first page before proceeding.
