Now 2-0 with one game left to go on Friday. They just squeaked on out over SD, 17-15.

So, if Georgia takes them on the next game, they get to play a repeat of their Sectional final in their pre-quarters tomorrow morning by playing Washington.

However, Georgia's not looking so good so far today, losing quite hard (6-15) to the team that UBC just beat 17-15, so I'm thinking you'll hear from us in the next couple of hours that UBC won their pool. Which then means they get to bypass pre-quarters and play either Texas (likely from pool C to place 2nd) or Queens-Kingston or Harvard (not sure which from pool B will take 3rd)

... my bet (not that there's any takers) is that UBC takes pool, and then get to play Texas (because they beat Q-K in preQ). Although I'd have preferred that it was an all-Canadian final, but the only way that can happen is if BC takes 2nd in their pool, which I'd rather they go all the way undefeated.... so sorry Q-K :)

Also... look for a UBC - Colorado semi-final tomorrow. For those that don't know, Colorado is #1 seed and are looking pretty strong so far.

C'mon UBC boys... bring it and BATTLE!

Game three - Georgia over UBC 15-13

That put their pool into a 3-way tie, which ends up San Diego 1, UBC 2, Georgia 3. (btw, if you're checking the scoreomatic, it shows Georgia 1 and SD 3, which is way wrong if you look at the 3-way tie-break game score differential. SD trounced Georgia by 9, the other two were 2-point games, so SD is +7, UBC 0, Georgia -7 ... UPA site is correct, Score-O-Matic is wrong).

So tomorrow, game 1 UBC vs Washington, a replay of the Sectionals final. Hey Rob, have you got the game tape from Sectionals so those that can't be down to watch it live can watch that... it'll be the same result.

So.... that's good news and bad news.

Good news: UBC is now on the opposite arm from #1 seed Colorado (who're looking pretty strong as noted earlier... they've won all their games by at least 5); meaning UBC doesn't have to see them until the finals.

Bad news: UBC is now on the same side as #2 seed Stanford (looking almost as strong as Colorado, who've won two games by at least 7, but the third only squeaked by with a one-point win at the cap); meaning UBC meets them in the semis.

All in all, the good far outweighs the bad... it's an easier road to the finals... bring it home, boys!

More news as it happens tomorrow.

... of course, that assumes they win their first game of the day... which they didn't.

UBC 16 - Washington 17

... and they get to relax and watch for the rest of the day. (except for two games they need to win to tie for 9th)

I don't think UBC played their final game(s), and it seems they ended up somewhere between tied for 13th with Pittsburgh, and tied for 15th with Queens.

SW region sent only two teams and both made semi-finals so that means they get 2 of the 4 strength bids next year. By my calculations, I believe that one of the other two go to SO region (one team, Texas, sent and made 5-8th place), and the last goes to NW (region's 2nd place team, Washington, also made 5-8th place). All other region's 2nd and 3rd place teams placed worse than that: GL 2nd team placed 9/10th, NE 2nd team placed 11/12th, CN 2nd team placed 11/12th, AC 2nd team placed 13-16th, NW 3rd team 13-16th, and ME 2nd team placed 15/16th.

So we get to send at least 2 teams next year (whew, thank you Washington!), and possibly a third if the size bid goes our way.
