Ultimate Extravaganza

On June 18, the VUL will host an evening of fun and games for the VUL community and two national charities. All activities will occur at Andy Livingstone Park.

• 8:00-9:30pm - Ultimate Olympics
• 9:30-10:00pm - presentation to fundraisers
• 10:00-11:00pm - Art Hawkins Great Canadian Ultimate Game
• 11:00-late - After hours celebration

See below for ways you can participate, and sign up at the calendar event so we know you're coming.

Warm-up: Ultimate Olympics

To get the evening started, we'll begin with Ultimate Olympics, a fun-filled competition with all sorts of games and challenges involving useful and useless disc skills. Imagine a decathlon-like event, with stations that test skills such as accuracy, ability to catch a disc after spinning around a baseball bat, and one legged sprints. This is a 'hat-event' where anyone can register and will be placed on a team drawn out of a hat. Players of all levels can participate and still have a chance of winning! Entry fee will be by donation and all funds go to the charities.

Art Hawkins Great Canadian Ultimate Game

The Game

Ultimate players in 27 communities from coast-to-coast will compete in the game. It is an opportunity for ultimate players to share the spirit of Ultimate and highlight the accessibility and inclusive nature of the sport. Competing players will raise funds for two charities in 2011: Ultimate Peace and the Boys & Girls Club.

How does the game work? Each community involved plays the game for one hour. The game will start on the west coast, jump to the east coast, and then make its way back across Canada to finish in the west again. Every hour it will move to a new community, where the score will be carried forward, and the game will continue. You can read more about the game at the Ultimate Canada website.

Fundraising

As a tribute to the late VUL Executive Director Art Hawkins, after which this national game is named, our goal is simple: To have a fun and spirited event while fundraising the most money for these two great charities! Last year the most money raised by one organization was $800. Let's smash that.

Here are some ways you can participate:

We'll have gift-certificates to New Balance for top fundraisers!

To be eligible for prizes, submit your pledge forms to the Event Coordinator, Craig Kulyk, by 9:00am on Saturday June 18: craig.kulyk@vul.bc.ca

Cool-down: After hours celebration

After the game, we'll head to a local establishment for some refreshments. Location TBD.
