2009 AGM Notices

Motions

1. Vision Statements

The following motion was put forward by Brian Gisel.

Whereas:
- Playing games with 4 men/women and 3 women/men does not, in fact, generate complete gender equity, either on the fields or in terms of league membership;
- The Core Values already state: "We encourage the full participation of men and women in our league and in the sport", which covers the idea that the VULS is supportive of gender equity, and how the Society achieves this should be left more open;
- Turf League is currently played with a 3/2 gender ratio;
- The first Vision statement restricts the possibility of Open or Womens divisions in the VULS;

Be it resolved that the VULS remove the first item from Vision Statements, specifically "Our League will enjoy complete gender equity; games will be played with either 4 men and 3 women or 3 men and 4 women".

2. Scope of Operations

Background:

The Vancouver Ultimate League Society, though its Board of Directors, Staff and Volunteers, have traditionally focused on supporting the needs of the Vancouver Ultimate League and its membership.

During 2009 the Vancouver Ultimate League Society created the Growth and Expansion Committee in order to explore the idea of expanding the ways the society could help develop the sport of Ultimate by working with other Ultimate organizations.

Motion:

The following motion by Brian Gisel was unanimously approved by the Board of Directors at their meeting on Oct 20, 2009. It is being put to the membership for ratification at the 2009 AGM.

Be it resolved that starting in 2010, the VULS, in conjunction with the BCDSS, will look at ways of increasing the scope of its support to include Ultimate Leagues other than the Vancouver Ultimate League. The intended outcome of this support is to facilitate the expansion and development of these Leagues to increase the availability of the Sport of Ultimate to the general population and to increase the total number of people playing Ultimate. Support of these leagues may include, but is not limited to, financial aid, consulting services, resources and supplies and/or staff and volunteer time.
